Your All-in-One Pet Care Companion
Pet Savvy is a web app that allows users to access professional help or tips anytime, anywhere by connecting with experts or reading articles. In addition to professional support, it provides emotional assistance through an active community.
The Problem
The Pet Care Dilemma
In a world where 60% of households own at least one cat or dog, pet owners often struggle to access timely and affordable expert care. High veterinary costs, transportation barriers, and time constraints make seeking professional advice stressful. Pet Savvy, a web app designed to streamline this process, aims to connect pet parents with trusted experts effortlessly.
With a goal of achieving a seamless, user-friendly experience, I set out to design a platform that would revolutionize pet care accessibility.

The Challenge
Building trust and navigating diverse needs created a complex puzzle.
Pet owners want reliable, immediate answers, but online pet healthcare is still in its infancy. Many pet owners didn’t even realize the friction in their current experience—until I introduced them to a better way. Trust is a major concern, and designing for diverse user needs across multiple devices adds complexity. Additionally, legal and ethical considerations restrict how pet health advice can be provided. Without an innovative solution, caregivers will continue to face inefficiencies, increasing the risk of misinformation and poor pet health outcomes.
The challenge was clear: How do I bridge this gap while ensuring ease of use, credibility, and broad accessibility?
Discover & Define
Discovering Insights and Chasing Tail-worthy Solutions
My first step was aligning business objectives with user needs. A competitive analysis revealed key weaknesses in existing solutions, such as inflexible payment options, limited expert availability, and a lack of flexible service options. I then crafted a Business Requirements Document, defining must-have features and goals.

Researches
User research illuminated hidden pain points and unexpected desires.
User research played a pivotal role in shaping our direction. Interviews and surveys uncovered a striking insight: Affinity mapping highlighted key behaviors—Pet owners instinctively turn to Google, YouTube, and forums for quick, free advice before consulting a vet. While online resources dominate for minor concerns, expert advice becomes essential for serious health, behavioral, or nutritional issues. The challenge? Misinformation is everywhere, making it hard to verify what’s trustworthy. Pet owners need a seamless way to connect with experts and access reliable guidance—whether for immediate help or proactive care.
Dr. Google Strikes Again
When faced with a pet dilemma, most owners don’t dial a vet—they hit up Google, binge-watch YouTube tutorials, or dive into pet forums for advice. The survey confirmed this digital-first instinct: free online resources like articles and videos are the go-to, while expert consultation plays second fiddle. It’s not that pet parents don’t value professional advice—it’s just that quick, convenient, and cost-free answers win the race.

From Googling to Calling the Pros
Pet owners may love a good DIY pet hack, but when it comes to serious health concerns, they don’t take chances. The research showed that while free online resources are the first stop for minor questions, expert advice takes center stage when it’s about a pet’s physical health, mental well-being, or nutrition. Whether it’s decoding a mysterious rash, managing anxiety, or perfecting a balanced diet, owners are willing to pay for trusted expertise.
Lost in a Maze of Misinformation
For pet owners, finding reliable advice online can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack—buried under opinionated forums, conflicting articles, and questionable social media tips. They need a way to verify what’s true, connect with trusted experts anytime, and choose how they communicate—whether it’s a quick chat, a video call, or just browsing credible resources. But pet care isn’t always about urgent crises; sometimes, owners just want to prepare for what’s next.

The Unexpected Twist: A Community-Driven Shift
During Interviews, a surprising theme emerged: Pet owners didn’t just want experts—they wanted community. Many preferred hearing from experienced pet parents, resonating more with real-life stories than clinical advice. This shifted our approach—Pet Savvy wasn’t just a consultation platform; it became a support hub-where pet parents could share experiences and get peer support. I adapted the model to include peer discussions alongside expert guidance, making the experience feel more human.

From Insights to Action
Equipped with research, I crafted user personas like Summer, a first-time dog owner struggling to find reliable training advice, and Adam, a cat owner who prefers self-research but needs reassurance from professionals.

Their journeys helped shape key features: multiple payment options with a seamless checkout process, a one-click auto-connect feature for instant expert access in emergencies, and pet profiles that track care history while intelligently recommending relevant articles.

Hitting Roadblocks and Finding Paw-sitive Paths Forward
I prioritized a mobile-first design, ensuring accessibility across various devices. Content auditing of competitors helped me integrate must-have elements like search filters, expert bios, and expectation-setting for consultations. However, balancing simplicity with feature-richness proved challenging. Through card sorting, I refined the site map, making sure navigation aligned with user expectations.

From Sketches to Smooth Clicks
With low-fidelity wireframes and rapid prototyping allowed me to iterate quickly based on feedback, refining the experience with mid-fidelity prototypes before moving to high-fidelity designs. Usability testing validated our decisions, ensuring an intuitive flow.

How Pet Savvy Puts Expert Care at Your Fingertips
Pet Savvy was designed with a deep understanding of pet owners’ needs, ensuring they can access expert-backed insights effortlessly and confidently. The research revealed key pain points, shaping the core features that make the platform intuitive, trustworthy, and effective. These features can be grouped into several categories:

Reliable Expert Insights
Pet owners often turn to online resources first, but they struggle to verify what’s trustworthy. To address this, Pet Savvy offers expertly written articles, ensuring users receive accurate, reliable information about pet care.

Building Trust Through Community
Beyond expert content, trust is reinforced through user reviews. Pet owners can rate and review their experience with experts, and others in the community can agree or disagree with reviews, helping validate the credibility of professionals.

The Right Experts for the Right Needs
User interviews revealed that pet owners are most willing to seek expert advice for physical health, mental well-being, nutrition, and behavior training. Unlike many existing apps with limited expert options, Pet Savvy prioritizes these high-value categories to meet users’ real concerns.

Flexible Communication & Seamless Access
Pet owners have different needs depending on their situation, which is why Pet Savvy offers multiple ways to connect with experts—video calls, audio calls, or chat. Additionally, the auto-connect feature ensures instant access to available professionals in urgent situations.

Personalized Pet Profiles
Every pet is unique, and their care history matters. Pet profiles allow owners to track past consultations and receive tailored recommendations, including relevant expert articles and services.
By combining these research-driven features, Pet Savvy creates a seamless and trustworthy pet care experience—eliminating uncertainty and ensuring that expert help is always just a tap away.

Fur-tastic Satisfaction
Usability testing revealed that Pet Savvy’s video call and auto-connect functions are a hit—users love their simplicity and ease of use. But even great designs have room for improvement!

UI Design
Color A Warm Hug for Pet Parents
By embracing Material Design guidelines, I created a sleek, intuitive UI that effortlessly blends functionality with warmth. The design strategy focused on balancing professional consultation with human empathy, ensuring pet owners feel cared for at every step. A soft, welcoming color palette of white and yellow adds a touch of comfort, making the app feel more like a hug than a clinical interface. To keep the experience consistent across devices, I built a Design Language System, ensuring the brand’s voice remains clear and cohesive no matter where users engage. The result? A user experience that feels as comforting as it is practical.

Pet Savvy successfully transformed how pet owners access expert care, fostering a trusted digital community. If launched, I envision monitoring success through user engagement metrics, app store ratings, and conversion rates. Future enhancements could include AI-powered chat support, expanded services for exotic pets, and global expert partnerships.
As the pet care industry evolves, Pet Savvy stands as a testament to the power of human-centered design. By combining research-driven insights with intuitive UX/UI principles, I created an experience that not only solves user problems but also strengthens the bond between pets and their caregivers.
In the end, Pet Savvy isn’t just an app—it’s a game-changer for pet parents everywhere.
