Transforming a Vague Business Website into a Powerful Communication Tool

Imagine landing on a website, eager to learn about a service—only to leave more confused than when you arrived. That was the challenge with La Connexiologue. Managers and business owners, the very people the company aimed to help, couldn’t figure out what it actually did. The website was a maze of vague buzzwords, an inconsistent design, and a business owner struggling to articulate her value.

To bridge the gap, I led a UX overhaul—conducting stakeholder interviews, usability tests, content audits, and competitive analysis. By refining the messaging, restructuring the site’s flow, and crafting a user-friendly design, we transformed the digital experience into one that made sense.

Unmasked the mystery of the Unclear Business

It all begins with a conversation with the founder at a party. La Connexiologue is a business designed to offer valuable services to managers and business owners, yet struggling to articulate its value. Managers and business owners visiting the site were left puzzled—what did La Connexiologue actually do? This disconnect created a significant barrier, hindering the business’s ability to connect with its target audience and ultimately, limiting its growth.

The goal was clear: redesign the website to effectively communicate the brand’s value and drive client engagement.

A Tangled Web of Uncertainty

The biggest challenge? Even the business owner had trouble defining her service. She wanted to help managers lead their teams better but couldn’t pinpoint her exact offering. This lack of focus extended to the website, which was filled with buzzwords but lacked coherence. Moreover, there was a lack of clarity regarding the ideal target audience, resulting in a broad but ineffective approach. Even after multiple discussions to refine her business goals, she would introduce out-of-scope ideas, making it difficult to maintain direction—especially when translating content into French. The result? A website that aimed everywhere and hit nowhere.

We needed to unravel this web of confusion. I kicked off with a content audit, identifying inconsistencies and gaps.

Cleared the air of foggy communication and found the target

Stakeholder interviews shed light on the owner’s aspirations and helped refine the business’s core value. A competitive analysis revealed how similar businesses structured their messaging.

Then, after understanding the message the owner wanted to convey and identifying the target audience, I conducted usability tests on the existing website—confirming what we suspected: users were lost. These tests provided an objective perspective, reinforcing the need for clearer communication and helping align the website’s improvements with both user needs and the founder’s vision.

Translate insights into solutions

From there, we built a sitemap and user flows to clarify navigation, followed by low-fi wireframes to establish structure. As we moved into mid-fi wireframes, crafting compelling content proved another hurdle.

Turned jargon into joy

As the client’s initial descriptions were still vague. I worked closely with the founder to refine the messaging, ensuring it resonated with the target audience. Then I crafted compelling content that clearly explained La Connexiologue’s services. Translating this content into French was a challenge, as the business owner frequently shifted directions. This required careful collaboration and numerous revisions. Despite this, I ensured the messaging remained consistent.

Simplify the Colorful Wonderland to a Funky Vibe

The next hurdle was design. We needed a site that was not just clear but visually engaging. Mood boards and a design system helped create a cohesive aesthetic. The hi-fi wireframes and clickable prototypes brought the vision to life, leading to my boldest move—presenting the design at an Evolving Web event to 50+ industry professionals. Their feedback was invaluable, and I iterated based on their insights.

Received High Review from Designer Critique and User Feedback

A pivotal moment arrived when we presented our clickable prototype at the Evolving Web event. This wasn’t just a presentation; it was a test of our design’s effectiveness. Over 50 professionals, including project managers, provided feedback. Unexpectedly, the pain points we addressed resonated deeply with them. They recognized how La Connexiologue could solve their challenges, expressing genuine interest in the service. This validation was a turning point, confirming that our design was indeed addressing the core issues. However, the feedback also highlighted areas for refinement, requiring us to adapt and iterate quickly.

We built bridges with crafted solutions that actually worked

Armed with invaluable feedback, we meticulously iterated on our design. High-fidelity wireframes were then developed, incorporating the refined content and design elements. Finally, we rebuilt the website on WordPress, ensuring a seamless user experience. Throughout this process, we maintained open communication with the client, ensuring their vision was realized while staying true to our user-centered approach. Each step was a deliberate move toward closing the gap between the client’s aspirations and the users’ needs.
